As we gather, we recognize that we
live, work, pray, and play in the traditional,
unceded lands of the Cowichan Tribes and Coast Salish People.
We continue to commit ourselves to
the work of reconciliation and relationship-building
with our First Nations neighbours.

Call to Worship:

Anyone who serves me
must follow me, says the Lord,
and where I am,
there shall my servant be also.

John  12. 26

O, Come.   Let Us Worship.

Gathering:

In this time and place we gather on the ancestral lands of Kwakwake’wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth, Coast Salish peoples and the Cowichan Tribes. From many places and peoples, we come to this house in prayer.

Collect for Today:

Most merciful God:
by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, you created humanity anew. May the power of his victorious cross transform those who turn in faith to him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.   Amen.

The Proclamation of the Gospel:
John 12.20-33

Sermon:  The Ven.  Brian Evans

“Sharing the Wreath of Tenebrae”

Amen.

Let Us Pray

Trusting in God’s promise to reconcile all things, let us pray for the church, the well-being of creation, and a world in need.

God of the covenant:
Through the church you draw us into community. We give thanks for the means of grace around which we gather. Inspire writers, musicians, and artists whose creative gifts adorn our worship.

Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great.

God of all that exists:
You lavish the earth with extravagant beauty. Preserve the rich and complex diversity of living things. Support local, national, and international efforts to protect the environment for future generations.

Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great.

God of the nations:
You desire peace and plenty for all people. Defend those who challenge oppression and expose corruption. Support advocates for human rights, social justice, and the welfare of all children. Particularly, we pray for the people of the Middle east and Haiti, and their children.

Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great.

God of every time and place:
You are with us. Support ministries of prayer and presence in this parish. Move us to reach out to any who are homebound, lonely, grieving, in treatment or ill.

Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great.

God of promise:
We give you thanks for the saints whose faith inspires, us especially Patrick, missionary to Ireland, whom we commemorate today. Grant us faith to trust in your everlasting love.

Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great.

Accompany us on our journey, God of grace, and receive the prayers of our hearts, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.  Amen.

Let Us Offer Our Confessions:

Most merciful God:
We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

As our saviour taught us to pray, we say:

Our Father,
Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us fom evil.   For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.  Amen.

Almighty God:
You call us to this space to enter into worship. You call us to be fed at your table; and we ask that You may draw us all together into one community; with thanksgiving to Your Son, our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Glory to God:
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and Christ Jesus, for ever and ever.  Amen.

And the Peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge
of the love of God, and of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

And the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you, always.  Amen.

Heavenly Father:
We give You thanks each day as You gild the skies of morning with the light that You so willingly gave us, and may we be Your light in the world. Amen.
