Leading the Liturgy of the Word

The Diocese of Islands and Inlets is presenting a second 7-week course, February - March 2023, to equip lay leaders.

The course is designed to provide the skills and resources for laity to lead worship services--Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, the Liturgy of the Word (a worship service without the Eucharist).  Successful participants will be licensed by the bishop as Lay Ministers

The ZOOM program will equip lay leaders to:

  • Understand the purpose of liturgy
  • Follow the lectionary, and examine its purpose in worship/liturgical formation
  • Understand our Anglican, geographical, social and historical context
  • Become familiar with the broad principals and structure of the BCP and the BAS
  • Pray creatively and prepare intercessory prayers
  • Access the available liturgical, lectionary, prayer and sermon resources as needed 

No fee, though participants must purchase 

 Participants Must:

  • have a valid Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Persons Sector check)
  • Safe Church training within the last five years.
  • maintain these cerifications to be licensed by the bishop.

Instructors:
In partnership with Bishop Anna Greenwood-Lee, course design and content was developed by The Rev. Canon Donna Joy (Diocese of Rupert's Land) and The Rev. Sr. Ingrid Andersen (incumbent, Church of the Advent).

Facilitator(s):
The Rev. Sr. Ingrid Anderson
with guest presentations from clergy and lay leaders of the diocese.
Ingrid, an Anglican priest for 18 years in post-apartheid South Africa,  has a Master of Adult Education, is working on in her Doctorate of Adult Education.
Her focus is building the capacity of lay and ordained church leadership in response to parish teaching/learning needs.
She has developed/ taught courses in church growth, small group/home church lay leadership.
She has also led lay worship-skills training for the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania.
